Breaking ground on a new affordable housing mixed-use development

On August 10, 2020, Catholic Housing & Community Services of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia (CHCS) broke ground on a new affordable housing mixed-use development to be located adjacent to the National Shrine of St. Rita of Cascia at the corner of South Broad & Ellsworth Streets in South Philadelphia.

The project, to be known as St. Rita Place and Cascia Center, was designed by CBP Architects as an entirely new structure providing 46 units of affordable housing for independent seniors and 7,500 sq. ft. of multi-purpose community space. Features of the building include a food cupboard, resident lounges, laundry facilities as well as on-site social services for the older residents.
